It affects how equipment is purchased, how customer questions are handled, and how future technicians prepare for work in the field.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">That chain of knowledge extends across manufacturers, distributors, industrial users, and education programs. A gap at any point can affect how well people understand the products, methods, and requirements involved in specialized testing.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Michael Ninacs\u2019s work spans several parts of that chain. At Test Equipment Distributors (TED), he has worked on purchasing, customer service, and operating processes. Through the Nondestructive Testing (NDT) Management Association Scholarship Committee, he also evaluates NDT education programs and helps determine how scholarship funds are distributed to schools across the United States.<\/p>\n<h2 id=\"h-before-the-order\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">Before the order<\/h2>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Technical knowledge enters the distribution process before a customer places an order.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">NDT products serve different testing methods and applications. Buyers may need to distinguish among products used in radiographic testing, ultrasonic inspection and magnetic-particle testing. They also need to recognize when a product requirement calls for further review or manufacturer involvement.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">That need for specialized purchasing knowledge shaped the changes Ninacs helped implement at TED. He helped centralize purchasing across locations in Michigan, Oregon, California, New Jersey and Ohio, moving purchasing plans from individual warehouses to a smaller group of specialized buyers at the corporate level.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The change aimed to reduce unnecessary inventory, duplicated work and purchasing errors. It also placed buying decisions within a structure designed to account for the technical requirements of specialized NDT products.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">That need for technical judgment continues when a customer reaches customer service.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A representative may receive a question about an accessory, a safety product or equipment used in a specialized testing application. Some requests can be handled directly. Others require product information, an understanding of the customer\u2019s application or further review before an order moves forward.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">To help staff make that distinction, Ninacs has developed training plans and standardized processes that give customer-service personnel a stronger foundation in NDT methods, product applications and best practices. The work also defines how requests are handled and identifies the staffing needed to support the department.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The training gives customer-facing staff a clearer path for responding to specialized questions and recognizing when an issue requires additional attention.<\/p>\n<h2 id=\"h-beyond-the-company\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">Beyond the company<\/h2>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">That same technical knowledge must be developed before people enter the NDT workforce.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Ninacs serves on the Scholarship Committee of the Nondestructive Testing Management Association. In that role, he evaluates NDT education programs and helps determine how scholarship funding is directed to schools across the country.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Those decisions reach beyond a single employer. Scholarship support can affect which programs receive funding and which students gain access to NDT education. The programs prepare people for work in aerospace, energy, transportation, manufacturing and other industries that rely on inspection.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This is where education connects with distribution. Buyers need to recognize specialized product requirements. Customer-service staff need to know when a question requires further review. Both depend on a workforce that understands NDT methods, equipment and technical standards.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Ninacs\u2019s work reaches each part of that chain. His efforts in procurement and customer-service training address how technical knowledge is applied within distribution, while his committee work supports the programs that prepare future NDT professionals.<\/p>\n<h2 id=\"h-knowledge-in-motion\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">Knowledge in motion<\/h2>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">NDT is often described as a testing discipline. In practice, it is also a chain of judgment. The technician may perform the inspection, but the quality of that work is shaped long before the test begins, by the education that prepares the workforce, the buyer who understands what the requirement demands and the representative who knows when a technical question warrants a deeper answer.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">That is where Ninacs\u2019s work has had its impact. Across education, purchasing, and customer service, he has focused on the points where technical knowledge changes hands, decisions are made and information has to remain useful. In an industry where a single judgment can determine what happens next, that ability to connect knowledge with action is not peripheral to the work.
