The scale of that investment may be encouraging companies to treat AI adoption as an important signal of technological readiness, sometimes creating pressure to implement tools before the underlying business case has been fully established. Gartner also notes that enterprises have so far tended to favor tactical initiatives aimed at incremental efficiency and productivity gains, while proving broader business value remains a challenge.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">That spending surge seems to create a large commercial market around AI infrastructure, platforms, consulting, and implementation. Gartner expects AI infrastructure to account for more than 45% of spending in the coming years, while UBS, as reported by Yahoo Finance, projects that hyperscalers could invest about $4.1 trillion in AI infrastructure between 2026 and 2028. Such figures may suggest an ecosystem expanding at extraordinary scale, with vendors offering businesses increasingly accessible ways to incorporate generative AI and agentic capabilities into their operations. For executives, the abundance of available technology can make vendor selection seem easier than determining precisely where AI belongs within an organization.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The financial scale of adoption may also bring greater attention to the economics of experimentation. McKinsey\u2019s 2026 State of AI report found that 80% of respondents say AI has improved their individual productivity, while only 37% attribute at least some EBIT impact to AI, a proportion essentially unchanged from the prior year. About one in five respondents also report that AI-related operating costs are constraining usage. These findings seem to suggest that useful employee-level applications can coexist with a more complicated path toward organization-wide financial returns.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">That distinction appears to become particularly relevant once an AI demonstration moves into a live operating environment. A short demonstration may show that a model produces an impressive response, while production deployment could require appropriate data, software architecture, access controls, monitoring, testing, cost limits, and defined responses to errors. McKinsey reports that organizations generating stronger AI outcomes tend to redesign workflows around the technology and support deployments with leadership commitment and operational discipline. The technical question may extend beyond which model performs best in a demonstration to whether the surrounding system can function reliably under real operating conditions.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Mikhail Voloshin, CEO and Principal Engineer at Mighty Data, Inc., a technology company focused on applying artificial intelligence and data-driven automation to business and scientific work, views that distinction through the lens of engineering. With more than 25 years of software development experience, he argues that responsible implementation begins with understanding the technology\u2019s limits.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He says, \u201cA prospective AI project can begin with a sequence of practical questions: Which specific problem is being addressed? Can AI realistically address it? What information and infrastructure would the system require? Which objective indicators would establish success or failure? How should the organization respond when the system produces an incorrect result? Can it function reliably without continuous human intervention?\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Voloshin believes that those questions can turn an AI initiative from a technology purchase into an engineering problem with defined requirements. They can also create a basis for deciding whether the expected improvement justifies the model, computing, integration, and maintenance costs.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">That discipline may be especially relevant because AI systems can produce plausible answers while still generating inaccurate information or reinforcing what a user expects to hear. Voloshin\u2019s experience leads him to emphasize that AI can be particularly useful when analyzing or summarizing a defined body of information, while applications requiring unsupervised operation demand considerably more caution. His work with custom retrieval systems, prompt engineering, and model integration reflects an effort to constrain systems to appropriate sources, permissions, and tasks. He emphasizes that human oversight remains an important safeguard, with final execution retained under human control.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The potential applications could extend well beyond conventional office automation. Voloshin points to legal work, energy infrastructure, manufacturing, real estate, data analysis, biotechnology, and scientific applications as areas where AI can address concrete workflow or information-processing challenges. His background in computational neuroscience has also contributed to his interest in biotechnology projects.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Voloshin states, \u201cSome of these applications may attract less attention than autonomous agents, but their value can be easier to evaluate when they improve a defined process, accelerate analysis, or reduce repetitive technical work.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Client education, Voloshin notes, forms another part of that equation. Organizations may benefit from developing enough internal AI knowledge to evaluate proposed systems, recognize limitations, establish safeguards, and understand ongoing costs. Voloshin argues that technical expertise should include teaching employees how to use AI responsibly and independently, giving leaders a stronger basis for evaluating external advice and internal proposals. In his view, the next phase of adoption may be distinguished by the organizations that can connect AI to measurable objectives, test it against realistic conditions, and understand where its capabilities end.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The scale of current investment suggests that AI will remain a significant part of technology planning. The more consequential question may concern how that investment translates into functioning systems and demonstrable business value.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Ultimately, as AI becomes more deeply integrated into everyday workflows, disciplined engineering, appropriate safeguards, human oversight, and practical evaluation can help determine which experiments develop into durable applications.
