They later pared the gains to around 830 yuan.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>That was \u201cthe market firing a flare gun over China\u2019s next speculative frontier\u201d, Stephen Innes, global strategist at Quintex Intel, said.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe message is pretty clear: embodied AI has become the new object of desire.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The IPO coincided with the opening day of the World Robot Conference in Beijing, where Unitree\u2019s booth was swarmed by dozens of visitors and reporters.<\/p>\n<p>Many were taking selfies with a three-metre-tall Unitree GD01, a towering rideable robot the firm says can switch between bi and quadruped settings.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>To its left, a small humanoid returned pingpong serves against a Unitree staffer, though the employee said the robot could not pick up the ball.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>At the other side of the stall, eight robots danced to 1990s Chinese pop song \u201cLovebird\u201d.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u2013\u00a0\u2018Underlying ecosystem\u2019 \u2013<\/p>\n<p>Commercial application of robots remains limited, with most used for research or display.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Unitree\u2019s products are used not just by domestic academics, but also US tech giants such as Nvidia, Google and Amazon, said Renjie Guo, founder and CEO of robotics engineering company Zeroth.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt has formed the underlying ecosystem that enables many people to build their developments on top of Unitree,\u201d he told AFP.<\/p>\n<p>Unitree has listed on the Shanghai Stock Exchange\u2019s tech-focused STAR market, often compared to the United States\u2019 Nasdaq.<\/p>\n<p>Other Chinese humanoid robot firms such as the Shenzhen-based UBTech have listed in Hong Kong.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>UBTech launched its \u201cU1\u201d robot \u2014 equipped with eye cameras, chest sensors, and listening microphones \u2014 earlier this year, touting the model as the world\u2019s first full-sized, ultra-realistic humanoid designed for mass production.<\/p>\n<p>The Chinese government has designated robotics a strategic industry, and says that by last year, more than 140 Chinese companies had already launched more than 330 humanoid robot models.<\/p>\n<p>Robotic companies have been ploughing resources into the development of physical AI \u2014 technology that allows robots to move and interact with the world autonomously.<\/p>\n<p>As the sector develops, it has become a new front in the US-China tech race, with domestic firms catching flak from countries like the United States.<\/p>\n<p>Unitree was added to a list of firms Washington accused in June of aiding the Chinese military.<\/p>\n<p>And in July, the Trump administration added humanoid and quadruped robots \u2014 including from China \u2014 to a list of products and companies that are banned from being imported into the United States on national security grounds.<\/p>\n<p>Unitree\u2019s IPO is a \u201cprimary school graduation ceremony\u201d moment for China\u2019s humanoid robotics industry, said Tianyu Zang, partner at Beijing-based venture capital firm Jinqiu Capital, which took part in Unitree\u2019s funding round last year.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt is now finally ready to face a longer-term and more rigorous test,\u201d he told AFP, answering questions such as whether or not robots will soon be deployed in real-world scenarios. \u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe industry will need to regularly present a public report card,\u201d he added.\u00a0<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p><!-- \u603b\u5bb9\u5668\uff1a\u6700\u5927\u5bbd908px Grid\u7d27\u51d1\u5e03\u5c40 -->\r\n<div style=\"display: grid;
