Scott Peters claimed: \u201cView from the San Diego airport at 6:30 this morning. It doesn\u2019t have to be like this.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI have a bill to pay TSA workers, Coast Guard and emergency management without adding more to ICE and Border Patrol.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEasy, right? But Trump won\u2019t allow it. As the DHS shutdown drags into nearly 40 days, federal workers and travelers shouldn\u2019t have to suffer from Republican inaction.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-large\"><figcaption>At San Diego International Airport, travelers were warned to brace for delays.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Another traveler, Suajit, posted a shocking video of the bedlam, writing: \u201dSan Diego Airport is a mess right now, terminal two delays up to two hours and terminal one has just one TSA line with no pre-check.\u201d<\/p>\n<p> Ellissee Maio added: \u201cTwo-hour wait time at the San Diego airport this weekend. Wondering what it will be like on Monday with news of ICE filling in for TSA\u2026 bet it cuts in half.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Flight Aware\u2019s misery map also showed 174 delays out of San Diego Sunday, with four cancelations including on Delta, Alaska and SkyWest.<\/p>\n<p>Airport spokesman Nicole Hall said: \u201cCheckpoint wait times and flight scheduling are subject to the operations of our federal and airline partners.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThese operations are, at times, affected by the federal government shutdown.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>She added: \u201cWe appreciate the ongoing commitment from TSA, FAA and our partner airlines to maintain the safety and reliability of the national transportation system during this challenging time.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Other major hubs in California also faced problems on Sunday, with both San Francisco and LAX showing cancelations.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-large\"><figcaption>Rep. Scott Peters reported long lines at the airport Sunday morning.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Thirty-seven were late out of Los Angeles as of Sunday night and 31 more were delayed out of San Francisco.<\/p>\n<p>Despite the cancelations, TSA lines were so far smooth out of LAX, with passengers quickly sailing through the airport checkpoints.<\/p>\n<p>One flyer, Christopher Hochstuhl, told the Post: \u201cAll I can say is\u2026 I don\u2019t know\u2026 we\u2019re the richest country in the world.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou need to pay your workers. There\u2019s no excuse for this. I don\u2019t think there\u2019s anything else that needs to be said.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Another, Michiko Romm, added: \u201cI am here to board a flight back to Chicago. I\u2019ve been LA for the past week. And LA has been really cool. Saw some cool things.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-large\"><figcaption>Travelers stand in long lines at Atlanta Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport on March 22, 2026 in Atlanta, Georgia.  <span class=\"credit\">Getty Images<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>\u201cSo here I am at the airport, and I was expecting to see a lot of long lines, but right at the moment, as I\u2019m staring right at the TSA check lane, it actually looks very, very reasonable, so I am hopeful.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>LAX tends to suffer less TSA chaos due to better infrastructure inside the terminals, more investment and 30 automated screening lanes that speeds passengers through.<\/p>\n<p>Data released on Sunday showed more than 3,250 TSA officers called out nationwide on Saturday \u2014 the worst absentee rate since the partial Homeland Security shutdown began and agents started going unpaid.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-large\"><figcaption>Delays come as Trump announced a plan to send ICE officers into airports nationwide. <span class=\"credit\">Getty Images<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>The mass exodus accounted for 11.51% of the scheduled workforce, leaving already-strained security lines even more vulnerable to meltdown.<\/p>\n<p>The worst impacted airports across the country were Atlanta\u2019s Hartfield-Jackson Airport, Houston, New York hubs and Philadelphia.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-large\"><figcaption>Roughly 50,000 TSA agents have been working without pay during the shutdown. <span class=\"credit\">Getty Images<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>More mayhem is expected to impact Californian sites later in the week as Trump plans to deploy ICE agents to make up for the shortfall.<\/p>\n<p>The president posted on Truth Social on Saturday: \u201cOn Monday, ICE will be going to airports to help our wonderful TSA Agents who have stayed on the job despite the fact that the Radical Left Democrats, who are only focused on protecting hard line criminals who have entered our Country illegally, are endangering the USA by holding back the money that was long ago agreed to with signed and sealed contracts, and all.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-large\"><figcaption>Travelers at LAX encountered short lines in Los Angeles, California on March 22, 2026. <span class=\"credit\">Jonathan Alcorn For CA Post<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>The president did not reveal what airports he will target specifically, but, with the delays beginning at California hubs on Sunday, the state appeared to be bracing for their arrival.<\/p>\n<p>White House border czar Tom Homan added: \u201cI don\u2019t see an ICE agent looking at an x-ray machine \u2013 because you\u2019re not trained in that \u2013 [but] there are certain parts of security that TSA is doing that we can move them off those jobs and put them in the specialized jobs to help move those lines.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Newsom reacted furiously to the news on Sunday, claiming to the Post that Trump was \u201cdeploying his personal police force.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He said: \u201cBy sending ICE into airports, Trump is proving the problem in real time: ICE has become the president\u2019s lawless, under-trained, personal police force, deployed to serve his agenda \u2013 not the law. That\u2019s exactly why it needs to be reined in.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-large\"><figcaption>Carriers like Delta, United and American have also shelled out billions to expand terminals. <span class=\"credit\">Jonathan Alcorn For CA Post<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>When pressed by the Post what he will do if ICE agents are sent to Californian airports, the governor did not respond.<\/p>\n<p>Despite the chaos on Sunday, San Diego TSA agents also chimed in with Newsom, with its head of operations branding the move \u201cridiculous.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Robert Mack told NBC7: \u201cAbsolute shock because that\u2019s just the most ridiculous thing I\u2019ve heard yet out of this.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He continued: \u201cMy duty is still the same, but at the end, if I can\u2019t put food in my stomach, I can\u2019t keep a roof over my head, the people I\u2019m supposed to be taking care of are failing me.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-large\"><figcaption>Automated screening lanes let multiple passengers unload at once and speed things up by roughly 30%.  <span class=\"credit\">Jonathan Alcorn For CA Post<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>TSA lead transportation security office at the airport Aaron Vazquez added to the Times of San Diego: \u201cI have no idea how they can contribute at an airport unless it was for intimidation purposes.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He continued: \u201cI don\u2019t want them anywhere near the checkpoint and officers that I\u2019m in charge of. I don\u2019t want them interfering with what the officers are trying to do.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI don\u2019t need an ICE agent telling passengers what to do. We are trained to be nice to passengers. They are law enforcement so they are armed. TSA is not.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He added: \u201c[ICE agents] can monitor traffic of the passengers to make sure they don\u2019t get out of line or go through the stanchions.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI don\u2019t understand what we need help with if it\u2019s not people that are able to screen the passengers.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Thousands of flyers suffered across the country over the weekend as flights were canceled and delayed and huge lines formed at dozens of TSA checkpoints.<\/p>\n<p>Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy warned the worst may still be ahead.<\/p>\n<p>He said: \u201cI think you\u2019re going to see more TSA agents, as we come to Thursday, Friday, Saturday of next week, they\u2019re going to quit or they\u2019re not going to show up.\u201d He added: \u201cSo I do think it\u2019s going to get much worse.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<p><!-- \u603b\u5bb9\u5668\uff1a\u6700\u5927\u5bbd908px Grid\u7d27\u51d1\u5e03\u5c40 -->\r\n<div style=\"display: grid;
