The organizations are recruiting manufacturers across Alberta, Saskatchewan, and Manitoba from the aviation, aerospace, defence, and dual-use sectors.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Each company gets a discovery and opportunity assessment, then Mode40 helps plan and test an AI pilot in the operation. Then they measure what it was worth.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The bill is intended to be split into equal shares. Mode40 covers one-third, CME another through outside funding, and the manufacturer pays the rest.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">That takes some of the sting out of trying something new.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Statistics Canada found 19.2% of Canadian businesses had used AI to produce goods or deliver services in the year before the survey. Cybersecurity or privacy concerns were the most commonly cited barrier to using AI, followed by cost. Among manufacturers, 12% cited a lack of skilled workers.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cAerospace and defence manufacturers do not need another disconnected pilot,\u201d says Cameron Bergen, founder and CEO of Mode40. \u201cThey need operational AI tied to traceability, quality and execution. AeroTrace is designed to prove that value manufacturer by manufacturer and create a repeatable model the sector can trust.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">There\u2019s plenty riding on those operational details. Canada exported $28.2 billion in aerospace manufacturing products in 2025, and 53% of those exports were supply chain-related, according to the latest State of Canada\u2019s Aerospace Industry Report.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Ottawa also wants Canadian companies doing more defence work. Its 2026 Defence Industrial Strategy aims to increase the share of defence acquisitions awarded to Canadian companies to 70% over the next decade. The strategy names aerospace and AI among its sovereign capability priorities.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Mode40 already works with Canadian manufacturers, using production data to help companies see where planning and capacity problems are building. AeroTrace takes that work into aerospace and defence, where the paperwork gets a lot less optional.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Defence work adds another layer, with tighter controls over who can access sensitive data and more documentation around how parts and records move through production.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Results from all nine AeroTrace projects will eventually feed an anonymized industry white paper covering what worked, what got in the way, cybersecurity, data governance, and the value manufacturers were able to measure.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cPrairie manufacturers want practical pathways to adopt AI that strengthen productivity, traceability and compliance,\u201d says Brittany Scarrow, vice-president of prairie operations and member services at CME.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The useful part will be finding out which pilots earned a second round of spending.<\/p>\n<h2 id=\"h-final-shots\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">Final shots<\/h2>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Splitting the cost gets a pilot through the door. The real test is whether manufacturers would pay for the next one on their own.<\/li>\n<li>The white paper should show the work behind the result. How much work went into the data, security, and production systems before the AI produced something useful?<\/li>\n<li>If the nine projects can show which factory problems were worth solving with AI, other manufacturers have something concrete to take into their next budget meeting.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<p><!-- \u603b\u5bb9\u5668\uff1a\u6700\u5927\u5bbd908px Grid\u7d27\u51d1\u5e03\u5c40 -->\r\n<div style=\"display: grid;
