New Yorkers are calling the city in record numbers to fix tens of thousands of potholes after a brutal winter season. <span class=\"credit\">Helayne Seidman for the NY Post<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>New Yorkers also displayed their anger over the road surface conditions on social media, showcasing tire-busting tracks \u2013 including one hole so deep that a traffic cone sunk into it.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThat\u2019s not even a pothole, that\u2019s a manhole,\u201d quipped uptown resident Alejandro Rolon in an Instagram video showing off an impressive pothole on West 131st Street.<\/p>\n<aside class=\"single__inline-module aligncenter wp-block-nypost-editor-primary-tag\">\n<\/aside>\n<p>This season\u2019s monster snow storms \u2013 and resulting freezing and thawing cycles \u2013 yielded so many potholes that the city has been addressing the onslaught of calls with \u201cblitz\u201d repair days, fixing nearly a weeks\u2019 worth of holes in a single day, the city Department of Transportation said.<\/p>\n<p>Saturday\u2019s blitz alone resulted in 8,000 potholes repaired by 80 crews, with more than 70,000 craters in total filled this year so far, DOT reps said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe high-moisture and thawing conditions continue,\u201d NYC DOT Commissioner Mike Flynn said Friday, \u201cand that means our work is not done.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>This year has been among the worst for potholes on record, according to the city\u2019s public complaint data that dates back to 2004.<\/p>\n<p>The skyrocketing pothole complaint numbers are only behind calls made in 2011 (24,043), 2014 (28,960) and 2015 (27,645) from Jan. 1 to March 21.<\/p>\n<p>Of 2026\u2019s 22,887 pothole complaints, Queens reps more than half \u2014 with 10,259 reports.<\/p>\n<p>\t<iframe src=\"https:\/\/flo.uri.sh\/visualisation\/28175874\/embed\" title=\"Interactive or visual content\" class=\"flourish-embed-iframe\" frameborder=\"0\" scrolling=\"no\" style=\"width:100%;height:600px\" sandbox=\"allow-same-origin allow-forms allow-scripts allow-downloads allow-popups allow-popups-to-escape-sandbox allow-top-navigation-by-user-activation\"><\/iframe>\n\t<\/p>\n<p>Brooklyn trails behind with 3,964 calls to date this year, followed by Manhattan (3,042), Staten Island (2,820) and The Bronx (2,681). <\/p>\n<p>Streets with more than a hundred pothole reports filed this year include Union Turnpike, Roosevelt Avenue and Northern, Springfield, Queens, Astoria and Rockaway boulevards.<\/p>\n<p>The city\u2019s pothole crisis has already turned deadly. Especially for our roads,\u201d NYC Council leaders wrote in a letter to Mayor Zohran Mamdani and the DOT, demanding another $46 million to fix the city\u2019s pothole problem.<\/p>\n<p>The request would expand the city\u2019s annual road-resurfacing target by another 200 lane miles \u2013 bringing it to 1,350 for the fiscal year beginning in July.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-large is-resized\"><figcaption>New Yorkers walking over a pothole in a crosswalk at W. 40th St. in Manhattan. <span class=\"credit\">Robert Miller<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>At the same time, some union members have admitted the Big Apple\u00a0doesn\u2019t have enough workers to meet the demand.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe just don\u2019t have the manpower to do the job in a timely manner,\u201d said Joe Puleo, president of Local 983 of District Council 37, which represents assistant highway repairers.<\/p>\n<p>Puleo told The Post he doesn\u2019t expect all the potholes to be filled until June.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNYC DOT continues to meet or exceed its annual paving goal of 1,100 lane miles\u2014enough to stretch from New York City to Miami,\u201d said DOT spokesperson Mona Bruno. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe will continue to work with the City Council to align priorities and resources to deliver for all New Yorkers.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<p><!-- \u603b\u5bb9\u5668\uff1a\u6700\u5927\u5bbd908px Grid\u7d27\u51d1\u5e03\u5c40 -->\r\n<div style=\"display: grid;
