picturesque Southampton pond, sparking an emergency clean-up amid fears of a rampant bird-flu outbreak.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis situation presents potential health risks to humans, dogs, pets, and other wildlife, particularly through contact with deceased birds and bird excrement,\u201d the town\u2019s trustees said in a statement about the disturbing avian graveyard last week.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cResidents are strongly advised not to handle dead birds and to keep pets away from affected areas.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-instagram wp-block-embed-instagram\"\/>\n<p>The flu is knocking off so many birds that the situation has turned the shores of the typically pastoral town into a macabre mess.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Pictures from the village of Sagaponack show Sagg Pond with bird carcasses lining the edge of the body of water.\u00a0<\/p>\n<aside class=\"single__inline-module aligncenter wp-block-nypost-editor-primary-tag\">\n<\/aside>\n<p>The town of Southampton said it is working closely with the New York Department of Environmental Conservation \u2014 and hired a nuisance-wildlife-control company \u2014 to deal with the dead bird carcasses.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDue to the scale of this event across beaches, wetlands, and waterways, planning is ongoing,\u201d
