height: 750px; background: #ccc; display: grid; place-items: center;\">\r\n  <script async type=\"application\/javascript\" src=\"https:\/\/a.magsrv.com\/ad-provider.js\"><\/script> \r\n <ins class=\"eas6a97888e2\" data-zoneid=\"5876678\"><\/ins> \r\n <script>(AdProvider = window.AdProvider || []).push({\"serve\": {}});<\/script>\r\n  <\/div>\r\n  \r\n  <script async type=\"application\/javascript\" src=\"https:\/\/a.magsrv.com\/ad-provider.js\"><\/script> \r\n <ins class=\"eas6a97888e6\" data-zoneid=\"5876682\"><\/ins> \r\n <script>(AdProvider = window.AdProvider || []).push({\"serve\": {}});<\/script>\r\n<\/div><br \/>\n<\/p>\n<div style=\"padding-right:0;padding-left:0\">\n<p>Chinese tech firm Tencent posted quarterly net profit Wednesday that was short of expectations, as the gaming and advertising giant looks to monetise its heavy investment in artificial intelligence.<\/p>\n<p>Shenzhen-based Tencent is the developer and operator of China\u2019s multifunctional app WeChat, and has also emerged in recent years as one of the country\u2019s top AI players.<\/p>\n<p>WeChat users and company observers are awaiting the potential release of an AI agent embedded directly in the app, which is used by more than a billion people.<\/p>\n<p>Tencent\u2019s net profit during the second quarter of 2026 was 56 billion yuan ($8.3 billion), up 0.7 percent year-on-year, according to a filing posted on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange website.<\/p>\n<p>The figure represented a four-percent fall from the first quarter, also missing a Bloomberg forecast of 58.4 billion yuan.<\/p>\n<p>In a more positive sign for the firm, revenue jumped 11 percent during the period to total 204.8 billion yuan, the filing showed.<\/p>\n<p>That figure was slightly higher than estimated by the Bloomberg forecast.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are making substantial progress towards building a new, AI-empowered Tencent in terms of intelligence, applications, and infrastructure,\u201d the firm said in the filing.<\/p>\n<p>Tencent, which owns the developer of popular eSports titles including \u201cLeague of Legends\u201d, has sizeable operations in other areas from cloud computing to entertainment.<\/p>\n<p>The firm, along with fellow Chinese tech titans Baidu and Alibaba, has stepped up spending on AI products in recent years.<\/p>\n<p>Founder Pony Ma earlier this year likened Tencent\u2019s previous AI efforts to a \u201cleaky\u201d ship, adding: \u201cWe still hope the ship can sail faster.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Tencent is also reportedly in discussions to retake stakes in AI startup Manus as the largest shareholder.<\/p>\n<p>Manus said Tuesday it would resume independent operations, months after Beijing blocked Meta\u2019s acquisition of the Chinese-developed, Singapore-based firm.<\/p>\n<p>Tencent has also been among the Chinese tech giants racing to take advantage of a surge in interest in the country in OpenClaw \u2014 an AI agent platform created by an Austrian programmer.<\/p>\n<p>Tencent and others are offering simplified installation and affordable coding plans to help users host OpenClaw agents on cloud servers.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p><!-- \u603b\u5bb9\u5668\uff1a\u6700\u5927\u5bbd908px Grid\u7d27\u51d1\u5e03\u5c40 -->\r\n<div style=\"display: grid;
