But that is something the FBI agents are asking about.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>While Entin did not share any other details about\u00a0<em>why\u00a0<\/em>the property may have lured interest from the authorities, retired Pima County SWAT commander\u00a0Bob Krygier\u00a0shed some light on how the dwelling might have played a role in Nancy\u2019s capture in a new interview with\u00a0Parade.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-large\"><figcaption>Law enforcement officers seen investigating outside of Guthrie\u2019s home on Feb. 25, 2026. <span class=\"credit\">Getty Images<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-large\"><figcaption>A large banner calling for Guthrie to be returned displayed outside of the KVOA television station in Tucson on March 6, 2026. <span class=\"credit\">AP Photo\/Rebecca Noble<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Krygier explained that, oftentimes in cases like this, abductors will look for a vacant property or structure near their victim and use it as a kind of hideout from which they can keep tabs on the person they are following.<\/p>\n<p>The former official said that authorities are likely examining any empty homes near Nancy\u2019s dwelling for this reason\u2014investigating whether those responsible for her disappearance used any local property as a \u201cstaging area\u201d before carrying out the crime.<\/p>\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n<p><strong>Follow The Post\u2019s live updates on Savannah Guthrie\u2019s missing mom<\/strong><\/p>\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n<p>\u201cThey could look at [these kinds of homes] as possible home bases or staging locations for the suspect(s). It would provide them a cover story to be at those locations at different times,\u201d Krygier noted, adding that these properties would enable a kidnapper to remain \u201cunder the radar\u201d while watching \u201cthe activity in the neighborhood.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cA location like [a vacant home], out of the prying eye of the neighborhood, could also be a location to set up surveillance equipment if anyone chose [to do so]. It could be easily stashed in a structure or on the property without anyone knowing,\u201d he went on.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-large\"><figcaption>Surveillance footage of a masked suspect outside of Guthrie\u2019s front door on the night of her dissappearance. <span class=\"credit\">FBI<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-large\"><figcaption>Blood seen splattered on the ground outside of Guthrie\u2019s hosue. <span class=\"credit\">BACKGRID<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>As for why such a property might only have come under investigation, Krygier noted that the authorities may well have received a tip from someone who has only just remembered something unusual about the dwelling or a person they may have seen there \u2014 adding that investigators are likely pursuing any and all avenues available to them as the search goes on.<\/p>\n<p>His insight into the case comes amid mounting criticism of Pima County Sheriff\u00a0Chris Nanos, whose handling of Nancy\u2019s case has faced increasing scrutiny in recent days.<\/p>\n<aside class=\"single__inline-module alignright\">\n\t<\/aside>\n<p>This week, a petition was circulated calling for Nanos\u2019 resignation from his position, with the\u00a0Arizona Republic\u00a0revealing that Tucson Republican\u00a0Daniel Butierez, who is running in Arizona\u2019s 7th Congressional District, was going door to door attempting to collect signatures for a recall of the sheriff.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m looking for people to help us out, get involved, go out, get signatures, you can have Democrats, independents, Republicans, sign these as long as they live within Pima County,\u201d Butierez later explained in a\u00a0Facebook video.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHelp us get these done, get these signed, and let\u2019s get the sheriff out of office and get someone in there that we can feel confident in.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Nanos has come under heavy fire over the lack of progress on Nancy\u2019s case \u2014 criticism that reached fever pitch after it was revealed that he had failed to disclose pertinent details about the start of his career during a sworn deposition in December.<\/p>\n<p>During that deposition, Nanos was asked specifically whether he had ever been suspended, to which he responded, \u201cNo.\u201d<\/p>\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading has-text-align-left\">The timeline of the disappearance of Savannah Guthrie\u2019s mom:<\/h2>\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n<p>However, it was later revealed that he had actually been suspended eight times during the early days of his career.<\/p>\n<p>The Pima County Sheriff\u2019s Department previously attempted to ease concerns by issuing a media update that addressed furious backlash over \u201cerrors\u201d that were identified in Nanos\u2019 online biography, insisting that these were simply \u201cclerical\u201d mistakes.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Pima County Sheriff\u2019s Department recently identified two clerical errors in Sheriff Nanos\u2019 publicly posted resume,\u201d the statement read. \u201cBoth date discrepancies were administrative in nature and were not intended to mislead or misrepresent Sheriff Nanos\u2019 work history.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-large\"><figcaption>Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos seen leaving a gym on March 16, 2026. Nanos has come under fire for his handling of the Guthrie case. <span class=\"credit\">New York Post<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>According to the department\u2019s spokesperson, the errors identified related to the dates listed for Nanos\u2019 professional achievements.<\/p>\n<p>The lack of clarity surrounding his work history is set to be discussed when the county\u2019s Board of Supervisors meets on March 24.<\/p>\n<p>Pima County Supervisor\u00a0Matt Heinz\u00a0made his opinions on Nanos clear, telling the Republic, \u201cWhen you see something this troubling and serious going on with one of the county officeholders, it\u2019s very, very important for us to investigate as fully as possible and to find out more information.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He added, \u201cThis man has been living a fraud for the past 43 years in Pima County.
