Seoul was also up as chipmakers SK hynix and Samsung rallied.<\/p>\n<p>Hong Kong, Taipei, Shanghai, Wellington and Jakarta were also up.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMarkets treated the report as a meaningful challenge to near term Fed rate hike expectations, effectively concluding the Fed has time on its side,\u201d wrote National Australia Bank\u2019s Rodrigo Catril.<\/p>\n<p>But he added: \u201cThe report reduces the case that the labour market is adding inflation pressures, but it does not provide a clean green light for a dovish pivot.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe report is unlikely, by itself, to deter a September hike\u2026 inflation remains the more pressing side of the mandate. The next (consumer price index) prints (for July and August) ahead of the September Federal Open Market Committee meeting are the key data releases to watch.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The dollar clawed back the losses suffered Friday in reaction to the jobs figures, and continued to gain against the yen after plunging earlier this month when US and Japanese authorities embarked on a historic joint intervention to support the Japanese unit.<\/p>\n<p>Crude prices jumped around one percent to extend gains at the end of last week as Iran\u2019s Revolutionary Guards insisted Sunday that they would not reopen the Strait of Hormuz until the United States complied with a list of demands.<\/p>\n<p>Tehran insists on retaining control of the waterway \u2014 through which a fifth of world oil and LNG pass \u2014 after the war and wants to charge tolls for passage, which Washington has pushed back against.<\/p>\n<p>Attacks in the strait, which was free to transit before the war, led to the collapse of an April ceasefire, and mediators have urged both sides to return to the terms of a subsequent June memorandum that set out a path for peace talks.<\/p>\n<p>Iran on Saturday released a list of conditions for reopening the strait, including an end to the war on all fronts, the lifting of a US counterblockade of Iranian ports, the end of sanctions, the release of frozen assets and compensation for wartime damage, the Tasnim news agency reported.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Those conditions echoed the terms of the June agreement, which included a provision to create a $300 billion reconstruction fund for Iran.<\/p>\n<p>Iran\u2019s Revolutionary Guards said on Sunday that their strategy was to maintain their blockade \u201cuntil the enemy accepts all our conditions\u2026 the strait is now actually a theatre of war for us and not just a waterway\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>For his part, US President Donald Trump said in an interview: \u201cWe are low-keying it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are only semi-negotiating with them,\u201d he was quoted as saying. \u201cWe are just watching Iran with its huge inflation and the fact they have no money.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt will work out,\u201d he added. \u201cIt\u2019s like a chess game.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u2013 Key figures around 0230\u00a0GMT \u2013<\/p>\n<p>Tokyo \u2013 Nikkei 225: UP 2.0 percent at 66,931.48 (break)<\/p>\n<p>Hong Kong \u2013 Hang Seng Index: UP 0.7 percent at 25,838.24<\/p>\n<p>Shanghai \u2013 Composite: UP 0.4 percent at 3,955.77<\/p>\n<p>Euro\/dollar: DOWN at $1.1554 from $1.1567 on Friday<\/p>\n<p>Pound\/dollar: DOWN at $1.3488 from $1.3499<\/p>\n<p>Dollar\/yen: UP at 158.25 yen from 157.50 yen<\/p>\n<p>Euro\/pound: DOWN at 85.66 pence\u00a0from 85.68 pence<\/p>\n<p>West Texas Intermediate: UP 0.9 percent at $78.87 per barrel<\/p>\n<p>Brent North Sea Crude: UP 1.1 percent at $84.48 per barrel<\/p>\n<p>New York \u2013 DOW: UP 0.3 percent at 54,036.93 (close)<\/p>\n<p>London \u2013 FTSE 100: UP 0.3 percent at 10,901.09 (close)<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p><!-- \u603b\u5bb9\u5668\uff1a\u6700\u5927\u5bbd908px Grid\u7d27\u51d1\u5e03\u5c40 -->\r\n<div style=\"display: grid;
