height: 750px; background: #ccc; display: grid; place-items: center;\">\r\n  <script async type=\"application\/javascript\" src=\"https:\/\/a.magsrv.com\/ad-provider.js\"><\/script> \r\n <ins class=\"eas6a97888e2\" data-zoneid=\"5876678\"><\/ins> \r\n <script>(AdProvider = window.AdProvider || []).push({\"serve\": {}});<\/script>\r\n  <\/div>\r\n  \r\n  <script async type=\"application\/javascript\" src=\"https:\/\/a.magsrv.com\/ad-provider.js\"><\/script> \r\n <ins class=\"eas6a97888e6\" data-zoneid=\"5876682\"><\/ins> \r\n <script>(AdProvider = window.AdProvider || []).push({\"serve\": {}});<\/script>\r\n<\/div><br \/>\n<\/p>\n<div style=\"padding-right:0;padding-left:0\">\n<p>Twenty-five US states, nearly all led by Democrats, sued Donald Trump\u2019s administration on Monday over wide-ranging tariffs, arguing that the president had exceeded his authority in imposing the new levies on dozens of countries.<\/p>\n<p>The states filed suit at the US Court of International Trade in New York, asking that judges halt the implementation of the tariffs, declare them unlawful and order the government to issue refunds.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere is no rational fit between the purported problem of forced labor in international supply chains and the blanket global tariffs the USTR imposed,\u201d the coalition of states argued in a court filing, referring to the US Trade Representative\u2019s office.<\/p>\n<p>The challenge is related to Trump\u2019s latest salvo of tariffs of between 10 and 12.5 percent imposed against 60 trading partners \u2014 forming the bulk of US imports \u2014 last month.<\/p>\n<p>The tariffs were imposed after probes by the USTR\u2019s office over allegations of \u201cforced labor,\u201d conducted under Section 301 of the Trade Act of 1974.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_3858278\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-3858278\" style=\"width: 768px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-3858278\" src=\"https:\/\/www.digitaljournal.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/2c06b1f0bb4dc8cd140be5e49def2b0c81881e2b.jpg\" alt=\"The US states allege that tariff investigations carried out by US Trade Representative Jamieson Greer's office were prejudged and pretextual\" width=\"768\" height=\"512\"\/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-3858278\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">The US states allege that tariff investigations carried out by US Trade Representative Jamieson Greer\u2019s office were prejudged and pretextual \u2013 Copyright AFP Aaron Schwartz<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Since taking office for his second term, Trump has upended global trade by imposing wide-ranging tariffs \u2014 at sometimes eye-watering levels \u2014 against Washington\u2019s friends and foes alike.<\/p>\n<p>Trump has argued that US trading partners have been taking advantage of the world\u2019s largest economy, and has sought to use tariffs as leverage to strike new trade deals.<\/p>\n<p>On Monday, the White House hit back at the latest challenge to Trump\u2019s tariffs, arguing the government move was legal.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe United States is using its lawful authority to obtain the elimination of unreasonable acts, policies, and practices that burden US commerce,\u201d said Kush Desai, a White House spokesperson, in a statement.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSection 301 tariffs have proven to be a legally durable tool since the President\u2019s first term, and they remain so now.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u2013 Earlier challenges \u2013<\/p>\n<p>Trump\u2019s first round of tariffs, imposed under the International Emergency Economic Powers Act, was struck down by the US Supreme Court in February.<\/p>\n<p>He replaced those with a 10-percent global levy, which expired in July.<\/p>\n<p>The new Section 301 tariffs replaced that levy, taking effect as the 10-percent tariff expired on July 24.<\/p>\n<p>Of the 25 states in the suit, 23 have Democratic governors while two \u2014 Nevada and Vermont \u2014 are led by Republicans.<\/p>\n<p>In their court filing, the states argued that the Section 301 probes were \u201ca pretextual and unlawful effort to exert unfettered tariff power.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The document lays out a timeline of Trump administration officials\u2019 statements, arguing that the investigations were rushed and prejudged when they were initiated.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Tariff Action is arbitrary, capricious, and contrary to law,\u201d the complaint says.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Plaintiff States oppose forced labor in all its forms and support protections for workers around the globe. But the Administration cannot use forced labor as a pretext to continue its illegal tariff scheme.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Trump\u2019s separate sector-specific tariffs \u2014 imposed under different legal authorities on steel, automobiles and other goods \u2014 have been unaffected by recent legal challenges.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p><!-- \u603b\u5bb9\u5668\uff1a\u6700\u5927\u5bbd908px Grid\u7d27\u51d1\u5e03\u5c40 -->\r\n<div style=\"display: grid;
