matches at the tournament.<\/p>\n<p>In a statement, FIFA, said: &#8216;The FIFA Disciplinary Committee has opened proceedings against the Argentinian Football Association for potential breaches of article 13 paragraph 2 c) (Using a sports event for demonstrations of a non-sporting nature), article 14 paragraph 5 (Team misconduct), article 15 (Discrimination and racist abuse) and article 17 (Order and security at matches) of the FIFA Disciplinary Code in light of discriminatory chants and gestures, late kick-offs, failure to comply with match and security protocols, the display of inappropriate messages by the team and spectators and the throwing of objects by spectators in relation to several matches of the representative team of Argentina at the FIFA World Cup 2026.&#8217;<\/p>\n<figure class=\"img-container shareable-item wp-caption\">\n<div class=\"img-wrap\">\n\t\t<img decoding=\"async\" width=\"646\" height=\"430\" src=\"https:\/\/metro.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/07\/SEI_305350701-adff.jpg?quality=90&amp;strip=all&amp;w=646\" class=\"article-image wp-image-29167589\" alt=\"Argentina players hold a banner reading &quot;The Falklands are Argentinian&quot; (Photo by Paul ELLIS \/ AFP via Getty Images)\" loading=\"lazy\" \/>\t<\/div><figcaption>Argentina players held up the controversial flag after beating England (Picture: Getty)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>In addition, FIFA has also opened proceedings against two Argentinian players, Leandro Paredes and Nahuel Molina, and coach Roberto Ayala for assault after an ugly brawl broke out following full-time in the World Cup final.<\/p>\n<p>Separately, Molina and Thiago Almada are both under investigation for unsporting behaviour, as is Spanish midfielder Gavi.<\/p>\n<p>&#8216;The FIFA Disciplinary Committee has received the report of the appointed Disciplinary and Ethics Prosecutor concerning incidents that occurred during the FIFA World Cup 2026 final (Spain v. Argentina),&#8217; the statement continued.<\/p>\n<p>&#8216;Following the recommendation contained therein, it has opened disciplinary proceedings &#8211; for potential breaches of article 14 paragraph 1 i) of the FIFA Disciplinary Code (assault) &#8211; against Argentinian players Nahuel Molina (two counts, one completed and one attempted) and Leandro Paredes (three counts) and Argentinian official Roberto Ayala (one count). Because of my position, I can\u2019t allow a feeling, or what I might receive from the other party, to change my mood and my actions. I\u2019m sorry, but for me, these are things that stay there and that\u2019s it.<\/p>\n<p>\u2018For me, things need to be put behind us and left there. It was more of a push than anything else, it wasn\u2019t a punch like they\u2019re saying, and that\u2019s it. It was a reaction to something he said, but that\u2019s it. If I see him, I\u2019ll obviously apologise to him in person.\u2019<\/p>\n<p>\u2018When the game ends, what I see is a fight in the middle of the pitch, and we rush to go after our players, and it ends up like that because that\u2019s not who we are.<\/p>\n<p>\u2018I take responsibility for what I did. My intention was to go and separate them, that was my intention, but sometimes things happen and emotions run high, but that\u2019s no excuse.
