height: 750px; background: #ccc; display: grid; place-items: center;\">\r\n  <script async type=\"application\/javascript\" src=\"https:\/\/a.magsrv.com\/ad-provider.js\"><\/script> \r\n <ins class=\"eas6a97888e2\" data-zoneid=\"5876678\"><\/ins> \r\n <script>(AdProvider = window.AdProvider || []).push({\"serve\": {}});<\/script>\r\n  <\/div>\r\n  \r\n  <script async type=\"application\/javascript\" src=\"https:\/\/a.magsrv.com\/ad-provider.js\"><\/script> \r\n <ins class=\"eas6a97888e6\" data-zoneid=\"5876682\"><\/ins> \r\n <script>(AdProvider = window.AdProvider || []).push({\"serve\": {}});<\/script>\r\n<\/div><br \/>\n<\/p>\n<div>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\"><b class=\"ssrcss-1xjjfut-BoldText e5tfeyi3\">Stormont&#8217;s economy minister is to develop plans to make compensation a legal right for households which lose electricity supplies during extreme weather.<\/b><\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">That is despite the independent Utility Regulator saying it is not the right time to do so.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">The regulator said money could be better spent making the electricity network more resilient to severe weather.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">It also raised concerns that compensation costs could be passed through to all consumers via higher electricity bills.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Northern Ireland is currently the only part of the UK which does not have a compensation scheme.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">The grid owner, NIE Networks, is exempted from meeting usual supply standards during periods of severe weather.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">That led to humiliation for Executive ministers in the wake of Storm \u00c9owyn last year.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">The first and deputy first ministers had called for NIE Networks to make voluntary compensation payments, but it declined to do so.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">The minister, Caomihe Archibald, said: &#8220;Storm \u00c9owyn highlighted the need for stronger protections for customers affected by prolonged power outages.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">&#8220;I have therefore instructed my officials to bring forward policy proposals to remove the severe weather exemption, while minimising costs for all consumers.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">She added that &#8220;detailed proposals&#8221; will be brought forward before next year&#8217;s Assembly election.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">At this stage it is not clear how much compensation would be on offer and to what extent it be funded by NIE Networks shareholders and how much of it would be socialised across all customers&#8217; bills.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">&#8220;Policy costs&#8221; have become an increasingly large element of electricity bills.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">These are parts of the bill which do not reflect electricity usage but instead are funding policies such as renewable electricity subsidies.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p><!-- \u603b\u5bb9\u5668\uff1a\u6700\u5927\u5bbd908px Grid\u7d27\u51d1\u5e03\u5c40 -->\r\n<div style=\"display: grid;
