Is he the greatest grass-court\u00a0player of all time?&#8217;<\/p>\n<p>Fellow former American tennis star Steve Johnson then said: &#8216;I\u00a0don\u2019t\u00a0know&#8230; The longevity is unheard of and might never be topped again.<\/p>\n<p>&#8216;I mean, I\u00a0don\u2019t\u00a0think those numbers will ever be touched. But I think\u00a0it\u2019s\u00a0hard to say because look at Pistol Pete [Sampras] before Wimbledon changed the grass in the early 2000s.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"img-container shareable-item wp-caption\">\n<div class=\"img-wrap\">\n\t\t<img decoding=\"async\" width=\"646\" height=\"431\" src=\"https:\/\/metro.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/07\/GettyImages-940163872.jpg?quality=90&amp;strip=all&amp;w=646\" class=\"article-image wp-image-29074694\" alt=\"Miami Open 2018 - Day 12\" loading=\"lazy\" \/>\t<\/div><figcaption>Former American number one John Isner (Picture: Getty)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&#8216;Since\u00a0then\u00a0it\u2019s\u00a0become less serve and volley and more from the baseline\u00a0and\u00a0it\u2019s\u00a0evolved over the years.<\/p>\n<p>&#8216;It\u2019s\u00a0hard to say Novak Djokovic is not the greatest mover of all time on grass.\u00a0It\u2019s\u00a0hard to compare eras because\u00a0it\u2019s\u00a0changed so much over the years but\u00a0yeah,\u00a0he\u2019s\u00a0making an argument for potentially being the best grass-court player.<\/p>\n<p>&#8216;Definitely in\u00a0this era. If he wins this one at 39\u00a0it\u2019s\u00a0a slam dunk.&#8217;<\/p>\n<figure class=\"img-container shareable-item wp-caption\">\n<div class=\"img-wrap\">\n\t\t<img decoding=\"async\" width=\"594\" height=\"396\" src=\"https:\/\/metro.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/07\/GettyImages-2284207793.jpg?quality=90&amp;strip=all&amp;w=594\" class=\"article-image wp-image-29074702\" alt=\"Day Seven: The Championships - Wimbledon 2026\" loading=\"lazy\" \/>\t<\/div><figcaption>Djokovic&#8217;s next opponent Felix Auger-Aliassime (Picture: Getty)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Isner believes Djokovic has already settled the debate, however, and says still competing for majors at the age of 39 is &#8216;otherworldly&#8217;.<\/p>\n<p>&#8216;I\u00a0don\u2019t\u00a0think\u00a0he\u2019s\u00a0making an argument, I think the argument has been made,&#8217; Isner, 41, added.<\/p>\n<p>&#8216;He\u2019s\u00a0not doing it like Pete did with the serve and volley, Roger would come to the net a lot more as well.
