at Newark Airport earlier this week \u2014 by telling a pilot to \u201cgo around.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The frightening near-miss unfolded when an Alaska Airlines jet and a FedEx cargo plane were trying to land at the same time on crossing runways Tuesday evening.<\/p>\n<p>The composed air traffic controller could be heard over the radio instructing Alaska Airlines Flight 294, which was en route from according to data from FlightRadar24.<a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2026\/03\/19\/us-news\/alaska-airlines-fedex-cargo-planes-narrowly-avoid-catastrophic-crash-while-landing-at-newark-airport\/#\"\/><\/p>\n<p>The National Transportation Safety Board and Federal Aviation Administration confirmed they are investigating the close call. <\/p>\n<p>Reps for both Alaska Airlines and FedEx\u00a0said their crews reacted as trained to allow both aircrafts to land safely.  <\/p>\n<p>There were 171 passengers and 6 crew members on board the Alaska flight at the time, according to the airline.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<p><script async
