The search landscape is changing rapidly. The rise of artificial intelligence (AI), social media search, and platform-specific discovery tools is reshaping how users find information and how businesses need to think about visibility.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">New data from content intelligence platform Virlo suggests that marketers are already adapting. After analysing 124 SEO-related videos across TikTok, YouTube and Instagram, the company found growing interest in what it calls \u201cplatform-specific SEO,\u201d with content around TikTok searchability, YouTube discovery, and native search tools generating more than 5 million views and showing rapid growth.<\/p>\n<h2 id=\"h-search-is-fragmenting-across-platforms\" class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Search is fragmenting across platforms<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Historically, consumers turned to Google when they wanted information. Today, younger users increasingly begin their search journeys on social platforms. TikTok has become a destination for product reviews, restaurant recommendations and travel ideas. YouTube remains one of the world\u2019s largest search engines, while LinkedIn\u2019s internal search tools are increasingly important for professional visibility. At the same time, AI assistants such as ChatGPT, Microsoft Copilot and Google\u2019s AI-powered search experiences are changing how information is surfaced and consumed.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">According to SEO and digital marketing specialist Jin Grey, this shift is creating a new skills gap. \u201cA lot of beginners still think SEO means learning how to rank a blog post on Google,\u201d Grey says. \u201cThat is still useful, but it is not enough anymore. Clients now need people who understand how search works on TikTok, YouTube, AI tools, social platforms and niche communities.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This reflects a growing industry discussion around what some analysts call \u201csearch everywhere optimisation\u201d\u2014the need to make content discoverable wherever audiences spend time online.<\/p>\n<h2 id=\"h-ai-is-reshaping-online-discovery\" class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>AI is reshaping online discovery<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The biggest disruption comes from AI-generated search results. Google\u2019s AI Overviews, Microsoft\u2019s integration of AI into Bing and Copilot, and the expanding use of large language models are reducing the number of traditional search clicks. Instead of directing users to a list of websites, AI systems increasingly summarise information directly within search interfaces.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">For businesses and content creators, this creates new challenges.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Rather than focusing solely on page rankings, marketers are beginning to consider whether brands are cited in AI-generated answers and how AI systems interpret expertise and authority. Related to this is the quality and structure of online content and the consistency of brand mentions across platforms.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This development has led to the emergence of terms such as Generative Engine Optimisation (GEO) and AI Search Optimisation, both of which have become major talking points within the digital marketing community during 2025 and 2026.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The research also highlights growing interest in content repurposing and multi-channel distribution. Instead of creating a single blog article, businesses increasingly want content adapted into multiple formats.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Grey argues that this broader skill set creates opportunities for freelancers. \u201cIf you can help a client turn one idea into a blog, a TikTok script, a YouTube short, a LinkedIn post and an FAQ, you become much more valuable than someone who only writes for one channel,\u201d she explains. This reflects a wider shift away from channel-specific expertise towards integrated content strategy.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Another notable trend identified in the study is the growth of personal branding content.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Videos focused on founder stories, expertise sharing and community building experienced significant audience growth. This is not surprising in an era where trust has become increasingly important online. When prospective clients, employers or business partners search for an individual, they are no longer looking exclusively at traditional qualifications. They are often evaluating digital footprints, thought leadership articles, LinkedIn activity and social media engagement.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This trend is amplified by AI systems, which frequently draw upon publicly available content when generating responses. As Grey notes: \u201cYour personal brand is becoming part of your professional proof.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The shift is also influencing recruitment. According to Angeline Licerio, Chief Executive Officer of Your Virtual Angels, companies increasingly want digital professionals who understand how content fits together across multiple platforms rather than simply completing isolated tasks.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This does not mean every marketer must become a strategist or data scientist. Instead, organisations are looking for individuals who understand the wider ecosystem\u2014how a blog supports social content, how video drives discovery, and how audience engagement generates commercial value.<\/p>\n<h2 id=\"h-canadian-perspective\" class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Canadian perspective<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Canada is experiencing many of the same trends. The country has a thriving digital economy and a growing technology sector, particularly in cities such as Toronto, Vancouver and Montreal. Canadian businesses are also proving early adopters of AI-powered marketing tools and content automation technologies.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">At the same time, Canadian regulators continue to examine questions around AI governance, transparency and digital trust. This means marketers operating in Canada may need to balance innovation with compliance, particularly as AI-generated content becomes more widespread.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Canadian companies seeking international markets may be especially affected by the shift towards AI-driven discovery.
