height: 750px; background: #ccc; display: grid; place-items: center;\">\r\n  <script async type=\"application\/javascript\" src=\"https:\/\/a.magsrv.com\/ad-provider.js\"><\/script> \r\n <ins class=\"eas6a97888e2\" data-zoneid=\"5876678\"><\/ins> \r\n <script>(AdProvider = window.AdProvider || []).push({\"serve\": {}});<\/script>\r\n  <\/div>\r\n  \r\n  <script async type=\"application\/javascript\" src=\"https:\/\/a.magsrv.com\/ad-provider.js\"><\/script> \r\n <ins class=\"eas6a97888e6\" data-zoneid=\"5876682\"><\/ins> \r\n <script>(AdProvider = window.AdProvider || []).push({\"serve\": {}});<\/script>\r\n<\/div><br \/>\n<br \/><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content%2Fuploads%2Fsites%2F2%2F2026%2F03%2FAirports.jpg?quality%3D90%26strip%3Dall\" \/><\/p>\n<div>\n<p>A top TSA official warned that security problems at airports are likely to get worse before they get better due to the ongoing Department of Homeland Security shutdown \u2014 as he blasted Congress for \u201cholding\u201d the agency hostage.<\/p>\n<p>Adam Stahl, the acting Deputy TSA Administrator, warned Thursday that airports could be forced into suspending operations due to mass callouts that have led to widespread flight disruptions. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cCallout rates are one of many factors that help to inform our security footprint at every single airport, but again I can tell you, this is going to get worse before it gets better, particularly if we don\u2019t have a resolution within the coming days and weeks,\u201d he said on NewsNation\u2019s \u201cThe Hill.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-large\"><figcaption>Travelers wait in long lines at George Bush Intercontinental Airport Thursday. <span class=\"credit\">Getty Images<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Stahl wouldn\u2019t comment on how many airports could be affected, but warned the impact on smaller hubs could be severe.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAnd so again, small airports may be particularly impacted because they have fewer lanes and they have fewer people, and so, if a certain three or four out of 10 employees call out, we may, to ensure we\u2019re not degrading security, we may have to temporarily suspend operations at those airports,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<aside class=\"single__inline-module aligncenter wp-block-nypost-editor-primary-tag\">\n<\/aside>\n<p>The shutdown is in its fifth week \u2014 while Democrats and Republicans appear no closer to a compromise.<\/p>\n<p>Democrats have put forward bills that would see certain agencies within DHS funded \u2013 but not the likes of Immigration and Customs Enforcement.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Last week, Senate Democrats blocked a bill that would restore funding for the fourth time, prolonging the saga.<\/p>\n<p>The White House claims such efforts would put Americans in danger \u2013 and Stahl lashed out at Congress.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTo hold an entire department hostage, particularly over policy concerns, is, frankly, reckless, and it\u2019s, I really think it\u2019s, it threatens, really the foundational, you know, job of Congress at large to fund the appropriations process, to fund the executive branch,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-large\"><figcaption>An overhead view of a crowded Terminal E at George Bush International Airport. <span class=\"credit\">Getty Images<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Airport security agents are being forced to work without pay, which Delta Air Lines CEO Ed Bastian described as \u201cinexcusable.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The standoff in Washington has left about 50,000 Transportation Security Administration officers working without pay since mid-February.<\/p>\n<p>More than 5,000 flights nationwide were delayed Thursday \u2013 on top of the 9,000 flights affected Tuesday and 7,000 Wednesday, according to FlightAware.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-large is-resized\"><figcaption>Airport alert screens warning some security lanes are closed due to fewer TSA officers, causing longer wait times. <span class=\"credit\">Getty Images<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Scores of travelers were seen waiting in long lines at Houston\u2019s George Bush International Airport.<\/p>\n<p>According to the Houston Chronicle, flight passengers faced three-hour wait times for TSA screenings. <\/p>\n<p>Alerts warning travelers to expect longer TSA wait times due to the staffing shortage were displayed on screens inside the terminal.<\/p>\n<p>Travelers are encountering delays because fewer TSA officers are manning security checkpoints.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>On Tuesday, 40.8 per cent of TSA staffers at Houston\u2019s William P. Hobby Airport called out, as did almost 36 per cent at Louis Armstrong New Orleans airport.<\/p>\n<p>Data from Atlanta airport saw more than 34 per cent of staff call out on Tuesday and this number rose to about 38 per cent, as reported by CBS News.<\/p>\n<p>Cameron Cochems, a TSA union steward and lead officer in Boise, Idaho, said those on the ground are in the dark when the DHS shutdown will end \u2013 and said it\u2019s impacting morale.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe morale is getting worse by the day because no one knows when this is gonna end,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>Travelers are \u201cwaiting in line because the government can\u2019t do their job and it\u2019s ruining people\u2019s lives.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<p><!-- \u603b\u5bb9\u5668\uff1a\u6700\u5927\u5bbd908px Grid\u7d27\u51d1\u5e03\u5c40 -->\r\n<div style=\"display: grid;
