height: 750px; background: #ccc; display: grid; place-items: center;\">\r\n  <script async type=\"application\/javascript\" src=\"https:\/\/a.magsrv.com\/ad-provider.js\"><\/script> \r\n <ins class=\"eas6a97888e2\" data-zoneid=\"5876678\"><\/ins> \r\n <script>(AdProvider = window.AdProvider || []).push({\"serve\": {}});<\/script>\r\n  <\/div>\r\n  \r\n  <script async type=\"application\/javascript\" src=\"https:\/\/a.magsrv.com\/ad-provider.js\"><\/script> \r\n <ins class=\"eas6a97888e6\" data-zoneid=\"5876682\"><\/ins> \r\n <script>(AdProvider = window.AdProvider || []).push({\"serve\": {}});<\/script>\r\n<\/div><br \/>\n<\/p>\n<div style=\"padding-right:0;padding-left:0\">\n<p>US Federal Reserve chief Kevin Warsh will chair his first meeting of the central bank\u2019s rate-setting committee next week caught between a rock and a hard place.<\/p>\n<p>Inflation is at a three-year high but Warsh still faces unrelenting pressure from the White House to lower interest rates.<\/p>\n<p>The bank\u2019s 12-member Federal Open Market Committee (FOMC) will begin a two-day meeting on Tuesday and is widely expected to hold rates steady as the effects of US President Donald Trump\u2019s war on Iran course through the world\u2019s largest economy.<\/p>\n<p>Warsh, who was picked by Trump, was sworn in last month and has an ambitious and wide-ranging reform agenda.<\/p>\n<p>He has previously expressed support for lowering rates \u2014 in line with Trump\u2019s demands \u2014 but will likely face resistance from a divided committee.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>At the FOMC\u2019s last meeting in April, the Fed held rates steady at 3.50 to 3.75 percent, but the decision saw four voices of dissent \u2014 the largest number since 1992.<\/p>\n<p>Analysts expect the FOMC to deliver a similar decision in June, though with debate expected on whether to change the Fed\u2019s guidance on what its next move could be \u2014 a rate hike or a cut.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe was appointed as Trump\u2019s pick, because Trump probably was influencing him to cut rates,\u201d Dan North, senior economist at Allianz Trade, told AFP.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI don\u2019t see him being able to do that now, especially with inflation data and job growth data, and what the people on the FOMC said last time around with their dissents.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u2013 \u2018Family fight\u2019 \u2013<\/p>\n<p>The Fed has a dual mandate to keep inflation to its long-term two-percent target while ensuring maximum employment.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>It typically achieves these goals through interest-rate decisions \u2014 cutting borrowing costs to spur economic activity or raising them to cool prices.<\/p>\n<p>Before the US-Israel war on Iran sent energy prices skyrocketing, markets had priced in at least one rate cut by the end of 2026.<\/p>\n<p>With inflation flaring due to the war, however, the next move is now forecast to be a rate hike by December, according to CME\u2019s FedWatch tool.<\/p>\n<p>That will be sure to anger Trump, who has launched an unprecedented assault on the Fed\u2019s independence with a criminal probe against Warsh\u2019s predecessor and attempting to fire another Fed governor.<\/p>\n<p>Last week, responding to strong US job growth figures that suggested the Fed should focus on inflation, Trump said he still wanted lower rates but would let Warsh \u201cmake that decision.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The FOMC decides by majority vote, and even if Warsh argues for a cut, he must convince at least six other policymakers to join him.<\/p>\n<p>At his confirmation hearing, Warsh said he favored \u201cmessier meetings,\u201d where policymakers could have \u201ca good family fight.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe\u2019s stepping into an environment that\u2019s already messy,\u201d warned North of Allianz Trade. \u201cI don\u2019t think it\u2019s the family fight he was talking about.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u2013 \u2018Nothing can wish it away\u2019 \u2013<\/p>\n<p>Greg Daco, chief economist at EY-Parthenon, told AFP Warsh was unlikely to try to make wholesale changes at the meeting \u2014 his first chance to sit with the entire committee and \u201cshare his perspective on the economic landscape.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Warsh has proposed reducing the amount of information the Fed communicates about its decisions: cutting out forward guidance and projections.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn this first meeting, my guess is that he will withhold his projection, but not necessarily change the way projections are published,\u201d said Daco.<\/p>\n<p>While most analysts expect rates to be held steady at this meeting, opinions vary wildly on what the Fed\u2019s next move could be \u2014 whether war-fuelled inflation will need to be addressed, or if it can be treated as temporary.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDelaying rate hikes is riskier today than it was as the economy emerged from the pandemic,\u201d warned Diane Swonk, chief economist at KPMG.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe persistence of inflation is the hand that Warsh has been dealt; nothing can wish it away.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>As for whether Warsh will succumb to Trump\u2019s pressure, \u201cthat\u2019s something that\u2019s going to have to be tested,\u201d said EY-Parthenon\u2019s Daco.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI don\u2019t think we know, to be honest, at this stage.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p><!-- \u603b\u5bb9\u5668\uff1a\u6700\u5927\u5bbd908px Grid\u7d27\u51d1\u5e03\u5c40 -->\r\n<div style=\"display: grid;
