I no longer had a sister. I was no longer a sister,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSome days I feel like I\u2019m living with a ticking time bomb waiting for it to explode, [with] fear and anxiety taking over my mind,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>Hawker then called out Banfield for lies he\u2019d told about her sister over the course of the investigation and trial.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-large\"><figcaption>Banfiedl is accused of cooking up the double murder scheme so he could start a life with his nanny-turned-mistress, Juliana Peres Magalh\u00e3es. <span class=\"credit\">AP<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>\u201cHe attempted to smear her through outright lies and victim blaming,\u201d she said, adding that Christine was a loving and devoted nurse.  \u201cAs Christine sister, I didn\u2019t just lose her. I had to sit and listen to a version of her that did not exist.<\/p>\n<p>At the sentencing hearing, Ryan\u2019s mother, Deirdre Fisher, also gave a tearful statement, describing the moment a police officer notified her about her son\u2019s death.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhen he gave me the horrible news that my baby had been murdered\u2026 I let out a primal scream,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI was the last person he called the night before he was brutally murdered,\u201d she said. \u201cIt was the last time I got to hear the word \u2018mom.&#8217;\u201d<\/p>\n<p>She said Ryan was a caring person, despite defense lawyers\u2019 attempts to frame him as \u201can intruder\u201d and \u201ca fetish guy.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cJoe was extremely caring. He lived with his grandmother and was dedicated to her health and her well-being,\u201d she said. \u201cJoe was a guy who believed in fighting for the underdog and even actual neglected dogs.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Before his sentencing, Banfield continued to insist that he\u2019s innocent \u2014 and that he\u2019s the true victim.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI am greatly disappointed in the legal system,\u201d Banfield moaned.  \u201cMy right to defend my family has been taken away.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m being sentenced on an impossible set of circumstances,\u201d he said. \u201cI am not responsible for her death. This is not a knife I ever carried in my hand and I never stabbed her.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Juliana Peres Magalh\u00e3es \u2014 the 25-year-old nanny-turned-mistress \u2014 was also sentenced in February to 10 years in prison after pleading guilty for her role in the murders.<\/p>\n<p>Both Magalh\u00e3es and Banfield testified at trial offering conflicting accounts to the jury about how the Feb. 24, 2023 slayings went down.<\/p>\n<p>Magalh\u00e3es \u2014 the nanny of the Banfield\u2019s 4-year-old daughter \u2014 claimed that just months after she started sleeping with her married employer the duo came up with a plan to off Christine so they could be together.<\/p>\n<p>The cheating pair started a bogus fetish account posing as Christine and arranging for Ryan to help Christine live out her supposed fantasy to be raped, the nanny told the jury.<\/p>\n<p>So Ryan went to the Banfield home armed with a knife as instructed, but the wife \u2014 who worked as a nurse for sexual assault victims \u2014 didn\u2019t know what was in store for her, the au pair claimed.<\/p>\n<p>At the same time, Magalh\u00e3es waited in a car outside the home with the daughter, and called Banfield to alert him that someone was breaking into the house \u2014 all part of the scheme to pin everything on Ryan, the nanny alleged.<\/p>\n<p>The husband rushed home and went inside with the nanny \u2014 the pair leaving the little girl in the basement while the gruesome scene unfolded above, the sitter claimed.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-large\"><figcaption>Juliana Peres Magalh\u00e3es, a Brazilian au pair, was sentenced to 10 years behind bars in February for her role in the twisted plot. <span class=\"credit\">Fairfax County Police<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Banfield shot Ryan with his service weapon to make it appear as though he valiantly saved her from being raped. He then stabbed the wife multiple times in the neck and doctored the crime scene so it would appear as though Ryan attacked her, Magalh\u00e3es claimed.<\/p>\n<p>When Banfield took the witness stand to testify in his own defense, he admitted to cheating and said it wasn\u2019t his first time having an affair. He also claimed Christine had slept with other men and even had a BDSM fetish.<\/p>\n<p>He also confessed to the jury that he shot Ryan but maintained it was to defend his wife and not a ruse to make Ryan the fall guy.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-large\"><figcaption>Banfield, an ex-IRS agent, is also accused of killing a sex-seeking stranger, Joseph Ryan. <span class=\"credit\">Fairfax County Police<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Banfield\u2019s criminal defense attorney, John Carroll, told jurors not to trust Magalh\u00e3es\u2019 testimony since she was motivated to flip to get a good plea deal and to make money off of selling the rights to the salacious story for a documentary.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHer entire story has been bought and paid for,\u201d Carroll alleged.<\/p>\n<p>Prosecutor Jenna Sands told the jury Banfield fell in love with Magalh\u00e3es and \u201che was afraid of losing her. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe needed to get rid of his wife so they could be together, so they could get married, so they could have children together.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Banfield has maintained his innocence. He was convicted on two counts of aggravated murder, once count of child endangerment for leaving his daughter during the crime and one count of use of a firearm in the commission of a felony.<\/p>\n<p>The aggravated murder convictions carry a penalty of mandatory life in prison.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<p><!-- \u603b\u5bb9\u5668\uff1a\u6700\u5927\u5bbd908px Grid\u7d27\u51d1\u5e03\u5c40 -->\r\n<div style=\"display: grid;
