The community\u2019s median household income was about $129,000 between 2019 and 2023, according to the San Francisco Chronicle.<\/p>\n<p>Directly next door sits Atherton, long considered one of the wealthiest ZIP codes in America and home to some of Silicon Valley\u2019s biggest fortunes. There, average household income during the same period reached roughly $646,000 \u2014 more than five times higher than in neighboring North Fair Oaks.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-large\"><figcaption>Two Bay Area cities couldn\u2019t be more different as they reveal the staggering income gap in the Golden State. <span class=\"credit\">Google Maps<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Looking online, images from North Fair Oaks community events in the 1.2-square-mile stretch of unincorporated land include mariachi bands, Mexican dancers and parades filled with Mexican culture in the largely-Spanish speaking immigrant community.<\/p>\n<p>A brightly colored mural in the town includes a painted Mexican artwork, which includes the UFW (United Farm Workers) flag, and a sign that reads \u201cLittle Mexico.\u201d<\/p>\n<aside class=\"single__inline-module aligncenter wp-block-nypost-editor-primary-tag\">\n<\/aside>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-large\"><figcaption>The town of North Fair Oaks is populated mainly with thousands of immigrants who migrated to the Bay Area community. <span class=\"credit\">Instagram\/@sanmateocounty<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>The residents struggle to get by, working 14-hour days taking care of the property of Atherton residents, with multiple families living in single family apartments. It\u2019s a different world over here.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-large\"><figcaption>The town borders the section of Atherton, where many of Silicon Valley\u2019s wealthiest live. <span class=\"credit\">Bloomberg via Getty Images<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s like those cartoons where you have that dark cloud just following you wherever you go.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt really feels like we can\u2019t catch a break,\u201d she added.<\/p>\n<p>One picture showed a celebration about the completion of the Middlefield Road project.<\/p>\n<p>That same road runs through the community of Atherton where the shaded tree-lined streets replace stark sidewalks of check cashing storefronts and taquerias.<\/p>\n<p>Pictures posted on Instagram of places in Atherton are truly stunning. The local library contains almost all glass windows with a shaded outside corridor.<\/p>\n<p>Atherton Vice Mayor Rick DeGolia told the outlet he knew North Fair Oaks \u201ca little bit.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s on the way to Costco, vegetable markets and a variety of other businesses,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-large\"><figcaption>Pictures posted on Instagram of places in Atherton are truly stunning. <span class=\"credit\">Getty Images<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>There\u2019s images of homes in the community that look like palaces and mansions that lie behind giant gates. The median home sale price in Atherton is approximately $25.2 million.<\/p>\n<p>One local realtor page describes the town as the area\u2019s most \u201cexclusive residential enclave \u2014 a quiet, wooded sanctuary where billionaires, VC partners, and tech executives retreat from the industry they built.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere are no storefronts, no restaurants, no traffic lights.
