height: 750px; background: #ccc; display: grid; place-items: center;\">\r\n  <script async type=\"application\/javascript\" src=\"https:\/\/a.magsrv.com\/ad-provider.js\"><\/script> \r\n <ins class=\"eas6a97888e2\" data-zoneid=\"5876678\"><\/ins> \r\n <script>(AdProvider = window.AdProvider || []).push({\"serve\": {}});<\/script>\r\n  <\/div>\r\n  \r\n  <script async type=\"application\/javascript\" src=\"https:\/\/a.magsrv.com\/ad-provider.js\"><\/script> \r\n <ins class=\"eas6a97888e6\" data-zoneid=\"5876682\"><\/ins> \r\n <script>(AdProvider = window.AdProvider || []).push({\"serve\": {}});<\/script>\r\n<\/div><br \/>\n<\/p>\n<div>\n<p>It\u2019s a bizarre day in the neighborhood.<\/p>\n<p>Billionaire Bill Gates devoted a great deal of time and money to try to make himself look as kind and approachable as TV\u2019s Mr. Rogers \u2014 with his team even using a custom-size mannequin to test out boring potential outfits, according to a new report.<\/p>\n<p>Gates\u2019 team toiled away on crafting the nerdy image he\u2019s known for today to make the 70-year-old tech mogul appear like a benevolent man focused on helping the world, current and former employees told the Wall Street Journal. <\/p>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-large\"><figcaption>Bill Gates\u2019 team spent years making the billionaire look kind and approachable, according to current and former employees. <span class=\"credit\">Getty Images for All In WA<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-large\"><figcaption>The goal was reportedly to make Gates look as genial as TV\u2019s Fred Rogers. <span class=\"credit\">AP<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>To that end, his stylists tested outfits for different days of the week on the custom mannequin, with the team having access to \u201ctroves of neutral tone crew and V-neck sweaters, button-down shirts, slacks and extra pairs of the Silver Lining Opticians \u2018Carbon\u2019 glasses at an off-site building,\u201d the Journal said.<\/p>\n<p>The outfits were specifically picked for Gates to wear during public events, with his employees reportedly sending the billionaire\u2019s senior staff three options to choose from. <\/p>\n<aside class=\"single__inline-module aligncenter wp-block-nypost-editor-primary-tag\">\n<\/aside>\n<p>The carefully selected wardrobe was meant to evoke the \u201ccalm and approachable\u201d image of Fred Rogers, the beloved TV personality who ruled the public airwaves for decades.<\/p>\n<p>While Gates\u2019 appearance was more in line with a quintessential nondescript tech nerd, the team believed their efforts were successful by the time a 2019 YouGov poll found the billionaire ranked at the very top of public figures who people look up to.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-large\"><figcaption>Gate\u2019s team reportedly had a trove of the boring outfits tested for public-facing appearances. <span class=\"credit\">Getty Images for The New York Times<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>The ranking \u201cis quite fantastic and reflects the hard work and creativity of this team,\u201d crowed Larry\u00a0Cohen, the longtime CEO of Gates Ventures and the Microsoft founder\u2019s right-hand man, in an internal email reviewed by the Journal.<\/p>\n<p>\u201c[It shows] strong perceptions and attitudes of and towards Bill and the work we\u2019re all doing,\u201d Cohen added. \u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Gates\u2019 teams also reportedly pressed Netflix to make small changes to some shots taken during two Netflix documentaries about the philanthropist.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-large\"><figcaption>Gates\u2019 public image came undone following more and more details about his ties with notorious sex trafficker Jeffery Epstein (center, in blue jeans).<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>One such request asked for the video team to edit out a \u201csour look\u201d Gates made during one interview, with another calling into question an image of Gates below \u201cBernie Sanders\u2019s ID.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Neither The Gates Foundation nor Netflix responded to the Post\u2019s request for comment. <\/p>\n<p>Despite all the reported efforts, Gates\u2019 public image took a nose dive once the details of his relationship with notorious pedophile Jeffery Epstein came to light.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-large\"><figcaption>Gates has denied in interviews of taking part in any illicit acts with Epstein.  <span class=\"credit\">Netflix<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>While Gates has denied any wrongdoing with Epstein, he confessed earlier this year to having an affair with two Russian women. He and his wife of 27 years, Melinda French, divorced in 2021.<\/p>\n<p>Epstein\u2019s emails revealed the disgraced financier attempted to threaten Gates with the affair in 2013, with a Gates spokesperson slamming it as \u201cabsolutely absurd and completely false.\u201d  <\/p>\n<p>Gates is set to speak with a congressional committee over his ties with Epstein on June 10.
