President Trump is the president during our 250th anniversary,\u201d Bessent told Fox News\u2019 \u201cSunday Morning Futures.\u201d <\/p>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-large\"><figcaption>Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent called it \u201cfitting\u201d for President Trump\u2019s face to be on a $250 bill. <span class=\"credit\">ZUMAPRESS.com<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>\u201cCalvin Coolidge was president during the 150th anniversary. And there was a coin printed for him.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAnd I think it\u2019s a great celebratory note for a great president.\u201d<\/p>\n<aside class=\"single__inline-module aligncenter wp-block-nypost-editor-primary-tag\">\n<\/aside>\n<p>Last week, the Washington Post reported on how administration officials pushed the Treasury Department\u2019s Bureau of Engraving and Printing to mock up a banknote with Trump\u2019s face on it.<\/p>\n<p>The 1866 Thayer Amendment bars Uncle Sam from putting the likeness of a living person on official American currency, bonds, or other financial notes.<\/p>\n<p>There is also another law\u00a0restricting the government to specific denominations, including $100, $500, $1,000, and $5,000. But $250 isn\u2019t on that list.<\/p>\n<p>Rep. Andy Barr (R-Ky.)\u00a0has championed legislation\u00a0for the president\u2019s face to appear on a $250 bill.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-large\"><figcaption>The Treasury Department designed a $250 bill with President Trump\u2019s face on it. <span class=\"credit\">Trump Administration<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>\u201cWe have sketched out what it would look like because we have to prepare way in advance,\u201d Bessent explained. \u201cAnd if the legislation passes, then we will do it.
