They would go to some of these games and events, and I would have to say why I couldn\u2019t go.\u201d<\/p>\n<aside class=\"single__inline-module aligncenter wp-block-nypost-editor-primary-tag\">\n<\/aside>\n<p>Reid crossed the academic finish line and wore Kate\u2019s massive plush sneakers as she walked at graduation to thunderous applause from students and their families.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI decked out my cap with \u2018Four years, one secret,\u2019 \u2019\u2019 she said. \u201cThen I did a little dance on stage.\u201d<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">The mane event\u00a0<\/h2>\n<p>Although injuries limited the D-I athlete\u2019s time on the track, Reid never let them affect her school spirit.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>She took great pride in being Kate, who, along with her counterpart, Willie, is named for Hofstra\u2019s founders.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Reid would smile in photos even though no one could see her actual face, and she learned the dance team\u2019s moves by watching them on the basketball baseline to sync up with the squad.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-large\"><figcaption>Allison Reid <span class=\"credit\">James Messerschmidt for the NY Post<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Hofstra\u2019s most dedicated \u2014 she has collaborated with the Islanders\u2019 Sparky the Dragon and Mr. and Mrs. Met \u2014 even downloaded TikTok solely to learn antics for when elementary school students would come to basketball games.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe pep band even gave me a tambourine to start playing with them,\u201d she said.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Reid was thrilled to see the men\u2019s team play in March Madness for the first time in 25 years, but couldn\u2019t travel to the tournament site in Florida for the Pride\u2019s game vs. Alabama due to conflicts with track.<\/p>\n<p>Close calls became the norm, and Reid quickly adjusted to life as both the proverbial Spider-Man and Peter Parker, dashing from class to events and practice without a hint of suspicion.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>She even pulled the wool, or rather, fur, over the men\u2019s lacrosse team\u2019s eyes while working as their intern.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI would go back and forth between being their student athletic trainer and Kate,\u201d recalled Reid, who will next get a graduate degree at Hofstra to become a trainer.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI would go to some of their games, help set up, and then I would be like, \u2018Oh, I can\u2019t stay for the full game,\u2019 leave, and go dress up. Being Kate was just the best.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Kate fate\u00a0<\/h2>\n<p>Ironically, Reid wasn\u2019t bursting with school spirit during her days at Northport High, but instead found her leading role through destiny during her first semester.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-large\"><figcaption>Allison Reid <span class=\"credit\">James Messerschmidt for the NY Post<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>\u201cI was looking for a job on campus \u2014 nothing too big. This was the last thing I thought I would do,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThey said they weren\u2019t hiring at the time, and they would get back to me if they needed someone.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>A week later, the university came calling, and Reid became hooked on the happiness she brought to Hempstead Turnpike.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI love doing it so much, and I enjoy putting smiles on people\u2019s faces,\u201d she said. \u201cI would have done it even without pay.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>As if the stars didn\u2019t align enough, Reid was torn between running at Hofstra and Stony Brook University out of high school. She only learned later that trying to be Wolfie the Seawolf would have been a wash.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cStony Brook has a height requirement,\u201d said the 5-foot-5 Reid. \u201cAfter I started as Kate, I was happy I came to Hofstra. This wasn\u2019t in the plan when I was picking a school.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>And, being Hofstra\u2019s biggest cheerleader ended up as another full-circle moment for the entire Reid family.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMy mom was picking between two names \u2014 it was Allison and Katelyn,\u201d she said.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSo I got to live out Kate as well, which is pretty cool.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<p><!-- \u603b\u5bb9\u5668\uff1a\u6700\u5927\u5bbd908px Grid\u7d27\u51d1\u5e03\u5c40 -->\r\n<div style=\"display: grid;
