Patriot systems remain the most effective defense against every type of Russian ballistic missile,\u201d he added. \u201cThe majority of Russian missiles can be stopped.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Trump has refrained from green-lighting massive military aid packages to Ukraine and has instead championed the Prioritized Ukraine Requirements List (PURL), which allows NATO to purchase American firepower for the war-torn country.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-large\"><figcaption>Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky stressed the impressive capabilities of American firepower. <span class=\"credit\">AFP via Getty Images<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<aside class=\"single__inline-module aligncenter wp-block-nypost-editor-primary-tag\">\n<\/aside>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-large\"><figcaption>Patriots are among America\u2019s top anti-ballistic missile defense. <span class=\"credit\">AFP via Getty Images<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>PURL is currently Ukraine\u2019s only \u201cavailable for securing Patriot interceptors of ballistic missiles,\u201d according to Zelensky.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBut the current pace of deliveries through the PURL program is no longer keeping up with the reality of the threat we face,\u201d Zelensky stressed. \u201cWe understand that today there is high demand for Patriot antiballistic missiles in other regions as well.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cUkraine is ready to purchase the number of Patriot systems and interceptor missiles we need,\u201d he went on. \u201c[A]fter all we have been through together, have we not earned a place among your allies?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The letter was first\u00a0reported by Kyiv Independent.\u00a0<\/p>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-large\"><figcaption>Russia has been leaning on its ballistic missiles to attack Ukraine, which has developed considerable drone defense technology. <span class=\"credit\">AP Photo\/Efrem Lukatsky<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Zelensky touted Ukraine\u2019s successes with drones, intercepting Russian ones by over 90%, and noted how Kyiv has offered deals with countries like the US to share its technology.<\/p>\n<p>But missile defense has proven more troublesome. Over the weekend, Russia blasted dozens of missiles, including three known hypersonic ones, against Ukraine. <\/p>\n<p>Ukraine had made remarkable progress on the battlefield against Russia since February, after Elon Musk\u2019s Starlink satellite internet service set up a white list to cut off the Kremlin\u2019s access, scrambling its coordination efforts.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-large\"><figcaption>President Trump has been skeptical about the idea of sending aid to war-torn Ukraine. <span class=\"credit\">SAMUEL CORUM\/POOL\/EPA\/Shutterstock<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Reeling from those setbacks and economic strain, Russia is ramping up. <\/p>\n<p>Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov warned Secretary of State Marco Rubio to evacuate US personnel from Kyiv, teasing the Kremlin\u2019s plans to embark on \u201csystematic and consistent strikes,\u201d including \u201cdecision-making centers,\u201d per a readout from Moscow.<\/p>\n<p>The Ukrainian leader acknowledged the strain on Patriot supplies the US is facing due to the war in Iran and asked to expand production with European allies in a process that would be \u201cfully under US control.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-large\"><figcaption>The Russians have teased brutal attacks against Ukraine that are currently in the works. <span class=\"credit\">via REUTERS<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>\u201cExpanding Patriot production could become one of the most important contributions we make together to the security of America, Ukraine, Europe, and your allies around the world,\u201d Zelensky wrote.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe know \u2014 because we have tested it in modern war that American weapons work.
