Ted Cruz blasted Gov. Gavin Newsom for trying to blame Chevron as the reason gas prices in California are the highest in the nation, saying the real reason is the state\u2019s \u201cstupid energy policies.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Republican lawmaker said he was back home in Texas and had just gone to the Chevron gas station to fill up his car following the Memorial Day weekend, paying less than four dollars to fill up.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cJust filled my tank. However, that price skyrockets in CA where drivers are paying an average of $6.109 a gallon.<\/p>\n<aside class=\"single__inline-module aligncenter wp-block-nypost-editor-primary-tag\">\n<\/aside>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-large\"><figcaption>Sen. Gavin Newsom and the state\u2019s stupid energy policies. <span class=\"credit\">Getty Images<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Last week, Newsom ripped into Chevron with a \u201cpro tip\u201d claiming the company\u2019s \u201cbranded\u201d blend costs drivers more at the pump compared to \u201cunbranded\u201d gas.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAccording to the Division of Petroleum Market Oversight\u2019s analysis presented to the state Assembly, Chevron averaged more than 60 to 80 cents per gallon above unbranded alternatives,\u201d a spokesperson for the governor told The California Post.<\/p>\n<p>It came after clips went viral showing signs at Chevron stations telling drivers that the reason they were paying so much at the pump is because of Democrats that are running the Golden State.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-large\"><figcaption>Newsom recently ripped into Chevron with a \u201cpro tip\u201d claiming the company\u2019s \u201cbranded\u201d blend costs drivers more at the pump compared to \u201cunbranded\u201d gas. <span class=\"credit\">Anadolu via Getty Images<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>\u201cSacramento policies did this. Now you pay more,\u201d the signs read at pumps across California, paid for by the oil giant.<\/p>\n<p>\u201dCalifornia politicians are choosing foreign oil and fuels over local jobs and lower costs.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>A spokesperson for Chevron told The Post, the company is \u201ctrying to educate consumers about how politicians are picking their pockets.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThese environmental fees, taxes, and regulations might be small individually, but cumulatively they are making the cost of living in California much more expensive. These are policy choices, it doesn\u2019t have to be like this.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>After Newsom\u2019s outburst, the US Oil &amp; Gas Association came over the top by bringing up Newsom\u2019s own driving habits \u2014 or lack thereof.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-large\"><figcaption>Clips recently went viral showing signs at Chevron stations telling drivers Sacramento policies were to blame for high gas prices. <span class=\"credit\">Pedro Colo for CA Post<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>\u201cPro tip: Don\u2019t take Pro tips from a Politician who hasn\u2019t driven himself anywhere since 2004,\u201d the group wrote in a post on X Thursday.<\/p>\n<p>The association\u2019s president doubled down on the criticism in a statement to The California Post.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s interesting how the politicians who are picked up every morning by a black SUV are experts on gas prices but always fail to recognize the impact their bad decisions actually have on gas prices,\u201d Tim Stewart said.<\/p>\n<p>The group had been referencing Newsom\u2019s taxpayer-funded drivers, who ferry the governor between events across the state and leave him out of touch with everyday commuters.<\/p>\n<p>Last year, it was announced that the governor was being driven in an all-electric Rivian.<\/p>\n<p>Newsom\u2019s office shot back at the remarks in a statement to the Post.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou want us to comment on a tweet from an account that apparently has been stalking Gavin Newsom since 2004?\u201d it read.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-large\"><figcaption>Chevron told The Post, the company is \u201ctrying to educate consumers about how politicians are picking their pockets.\u201d <span class=\"credit\">Getty Images<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>The US Oil &amp; Gas Association, which touts itself as an advocate for the industry since 1917, has frequently gone to war with Newsom over the cost of gas in California and the governor\u2019s green policies that have made it the priciest in America.<\/p>\n<p>In recent years, several major oil refineries in California\u00a0have closed or begun the process of closing, only increasing gas prices in California.<\/p>\n<p>Lawmakers and experts have warned Newsom\u2019s green agenda now risks sending the price of a gallon above $8 per gallon.<\/p>\n<p>Drivers in the Golden State pay a \u201cCalifornia premium\u201d that includes higher-than-average state excise and sales taxes, as well as hefty fees for climate programs unique to the state.<\/p>\n<p>The California Post reached out to Newsom\u2019s office for further comment.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<p><script async src=\"\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><br \/>\n<br \/><!-- \u603b\u5bb9\u5668\uff1a\u6700\u5927\u5bbd908px Grid\u7d27\u51d1\u5e03\u5c40 -->\r\n<div style=\"display: grid;
