Kathy Hochul signs the budget \u2014 and will apply only to violations that occur after that.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image aligncenter size-large\"><button class=\"button laws, and you\u2019ll not endanger children, pedestrians and other drivers who deserve to feel safe.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The law builds on the city\u2019s existing school zone camera program.<\/p>\n<aside class=\"single__inline-module aligncenter wp-block-nypost-editor-primary-tag\">\n<\/aside>\n<p>Cameras can be used only within a quarter\u2011mile of a school under state law, and in the Big Apple school zone cameras operate 24 hours a day, seven days a week.<\/p>\n<p>Registered owners receive a $50 ticket in the mail when their vehicle is recorded traveling more than 10 miles-per-hour above the posted limit in one of the city\u2019s 750 school camera zones.<\/p>\n<p>The new law targets a small group of drivers \u2014 around 14,600 cars continue to blow past the cameras despite repeated fines.<\/p>\n<p>Super speeders are often behind the wheel of high\u2011end vehicles, according to a report by Transportation Alternatives that analyzed city speed camera data.<\/p>\n<figure
