Swalwell has claimed to have received numerous death threats for his criticism of President Trump.<\/p>\n<p>While he has not been actively campaigning since early April, Swalwell\u2019s spending has accelerated dramatically since his career and life collapsed.<\/p>\n<p>From mid-April to mid-May, Swalwell spent $273,251 on the Law Office of Sara Azari, who aggressively defended him in TV interviews over the sexual misconduct allegations.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-large\"><figcaption>Sara Azari\u2019s law firm has made more than $280,000 defending Swalwell against allegations.  <span class=\"credit\">Threads\/@azarilaw<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-large\"><figcaption>Azari is known for her aggressive defense of clients in TV appearances. <span class=\"credit\">Threads\/@azarilaw<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Swalwell also paid another $50,000 on San Francisco law firm Coblentz Patch Duffy &amp; Bass LLP during the reporting period.<\/p>\n<p>The ex-congressman was considered the Democratic frontrunner in the race for governor until allegations surfaced in early April. In some cases, his money was not welcome, as the California Democratic Party returned a $13,000 contribution from Swalwell on May 5.<\/p>\n<p>One source who worked with Swalwell told The California Post that they expect he\u2019ll continue to use the campaign to support his personal life, and he may even transfer it into a new committee to retain access to the money beyond this election cycle.<\/p>\n<p>Swalwell commonly used his congressional campaigns to pay for travel, hotel stays, dinners, and frequent alcohol deliveries.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis is somebody who makes terrible personal decisions, and this is more of the same,\u201d said Elizabeth Ashford, a Democratic political strategist in Los Angeles.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe\u2019s going to piss a lot of people off, but at this point, maybe he understands that these bridges are already burned, and he\u2019s just going to use [the money] for whatever he feels like.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m not sure if it\u2019s legal, but I do know it\u2019s not right.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<p><script async defer src=\"https:\/\/platform.instagram.com\/en_US\/embeds.js\"><\/script><br \/>\n<br \/><!-- \u603b\u5bb9\u5668\uff1a\u6700\u5927\u5bbd908px Grid\u7d27\u51d1\u5e03\u5c40 -->\r\n<div style=\"display: grid;
