The Jefferson County coroner ruled the shooting accidental.  <span class=\"credit\">Jam Press<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>The bullet struck Robeson in the upper left side of her chest, \u201cresulting in devastating injury to her left lung, heart and aorta,\u201d according to the suit.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>She was rushed to a local hospital where she died from the wounds. Her death has been ruled a homicide, and Towers was charged last week with manslaughter months after the shooting.<\/p>\n<aside class=\"single__inline-module aligncenter wp-block-nypost-editor-primary-tag\">\n<\/aside>\n<p>Robeson\u2019s family sued Towers for negligence and is seeking unspecified damages for her death.<\/p>\n<p>Towers should have inspected the gun to make sure it wasn\u2019t loaded before showing it to Robeson, the suit claims.\u00a0<\/p>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-large\"><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\"> <span class=\"credit\">Jam Press<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Police have released few details about the March 7 shooting.<\/p>\n<p>Towers\u2019 attorneys have said \u201cthe facts will show that Mr. Towers has no criminal history, has been a productive and upstanding citizen for his entire life, and is not guilty of these charges.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>But Robeson\u2019s family shot back through their attorney that \u201cefforts to portray Mr. Towers as \u2018innocent\u2019 are not supported by the evidence in this case.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-large\"><figcaption>Jeffrey Scott Towers, 54, was arrested on manslaughter charges in connection with the fatal shooting of his son\u2019s girlfriend, Whitney Robeson.  <span class=\"credit\">Jefferson County Sheriff&#8217;s Office<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Robeson, a Virginia native, graduated from Auburn University in May 2025 with a degree in interior design. Just weeks before her death, she began her dream job as a trade consultant with Restoration Hardware, according to her obituary.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhitney was hitting her stride exactly the way we always knew she would.
